Costa Rica

Costa Rica

Well of course being at sea I am lost to day and time, so Panama Canal is tomorrow, today we are in Costa Rica! I will publish more pictures soon. We are going down a river on a boat (talked Dawn out of the zip line) into the jungle. That way I can take more pictures :)

Last night we had another formal night, but Dawn felt a little “punky” so we left dinner early. She is feeling better today.
We are having a good time, and hopefully the furkids are doing better. Kathy emailed us and told us the furkids were a bit “stressed” the first part of the week. But it sounds like things are calming down.

Friday Morning

Dawn on Deck in the SUN!

Not too much going on yesterday or today – pretty much being a beach bum, on my third book and almost done with that. Two people from WGTS just yelled at me for checking work email and copied Dawn on that email so now I better be careful :)

Went swimming in the salt-water pool which is really neat, you can’t help but float! It also made my knees feel much better!! Remember if you click on any of the pictures it will take you to our gallery from the Cruise, where there are some more pictures. I’ve taken much more then I am posting because they charge by the minute :)
Tomorrow it is Panama, we haven’t decided what we are doing yet, but most likely will go do a history tour with forts and pirates and such!! I know boring for the rest of you, but sounds cool to me and Dawn!
Then off to Jamaica then the Grand Caymans. So far we thought we might go inner tubing in Jamaca and take a free day down in the Caymans.

Cozumel

Dawn at the water

Well Cozumel ended up being where we docked and Dawn signed us up for an excursion over near Playo Del Carmen at a place called Xcaret Eco-Archeological Park. So now Dawn is no long allowed to pick excursions. It was a man made park that had some neat things, so we enjoyed ourselves, except it was horribly hot, and while I can take it more then Dawn, she was miserable. I don’t know why she books vacations, I mean she chooses hot places at their hot times of the year, and then wonders why it is hot. Next time it is Scandanavia!! The best time was sitting looking out over the Caribbean Sea! We came back exhausted and I forgot to put sunscreen on my feet so now I have a sunburn in the space between my sandals. Anywho, until tomorrow!

Formal Night

After Dinner

Tonight was formal night at dinner so Dawn got dolled up, and well I got away with my standard suit and tie (pheww I hate tuxes). They mix between Casual, Informal, and Formal. Hal got himself in trouble with the waiter for cracking too many jokes so he had to wear the Dunce cap he made out of a napkin. Dinner was good, then we headed off to a “show”. That word should be used very, very loosely. It was a Broadway review, where only one of the 4 main characters could sing, however we were entertained, it became a comedy for me and Dawn.

Cozamel Mexico is tomorrow – going down an underground river on my back :)

Deck Time

John with a little light reading

Today we were at sea all day. Mostly Dawn and I sat on the deck and read. Dawn hid under the canopy in the morning, where I finally told her we would be laying in the sun! So we ate Lunch and went back out on the deck in the sun. Dawn dragged me to the Name that tune game and yes I got songs in 1 note, however they got me and changed it from Song to knowing the Movie the song came from. We did well 15 out of 20, tied with two other teams. Which we would have had 16 out of 20 if I had said the answer to one I knew, but went with the group instead. So I had to go up (well be dragged up) in front of people to do a sudden death against another guy my age and a lady who was about late 50’s and the song was The way we were – which she got in 1 note – DOH!

Deck and Bed

Dawn ready to fly

We took some pictures on the deck at night and enjoyed a little walk after dinner. But we were so tired from traveling, that we hit the library of course, especially to get our bags under the weight limit I had to leave 3 hardback books at home, so much for finishing my Blue Ocean Strategy and Outrageously Marketing book, and my book on Lincoln, Ed told me I needed to lighten my reading anyway. I read a CSI:NY novel on the plane, and got a WEB Griffin book from the Library to read (but managed to keep my PyroMarketing Book).

Dinner

Pretty Dawn

Dawn’s suitcases had arrived before our drill, but mine hadn’t. All I had was jeans and a yucky shirt. Just as we got ready to go my suitcase arrived, so I flash changed into slacks and a sportshirt (informal dining tonight). Dawn looked gorgeous. We had nice seating by a window and got to see the Gulf of Galveston while the boat departed. They have a vegetarian menu for her, which made her very happy. She had some mushroom pastry for an appetizer, an oriental vegetable soup, salad, and some kind of spinach patties and rice. I had Tomato Bisque soup, ceaser salad, and some wonderful chicken (skin removed of course). I cheated and got a hazelnut chocolate pasty dessert. Dawn got some low-fat buttermilk ice cream that I did not like, and she was not sure.

Bon Voyage

LifeJacket Drill

We went on deck and watched all the people and walked around the upper decks. Galveston is an ugly harbor, but to be expected. We were amazed by how many of the historic buildings were there. They really rebuilt or survived after that big Hurricane in the late 1800’s/early 1900’s (forgot the date, but watched the show on the history channel). We had to go below to get our life vest for the mandatory drill. We left our room and went to our muster point which was the Theatre. I helped a nice couple from the Dutch Antilles take a picture, they were about mom and dads age. Then we had to go to our life boats and hear the instructions in a gazillion languages. This took longer then the 20 minutes they said. We got to our cabin at 6pm which was our seating time for dinner.

Boarding

Boarding

Finally made it to the docks and there is where customer service reigned supreme. Got booked in, embarked onto the ship! Everyone was so nice, and our room is on the same floor as where we entered. It has a big window and we can see the ship nicely. Dawn’s mom tried to upgrade us to having a veranda but they were sold out L Our room is located near steps and an elevator. Our luggage took its sweet time (to be expected) to get here. We freaked out our stateroom attendant, Pieade because when we got here the beds were separate and since we don’t live in the I Love Lucy era we moved them together, thinking we were being nice. Boy did Pieade have a fit, that is what he does, he is supposed to make us happy, and he was sorry it was not done right, and we had done it wrong anyway. I mean this poor guy was so offended we had done that without asking him to do it.

Traveling

Self Portrait at 3am

What a day, it began at 2:45am. Andy was a bit upset at being left at home, but we left, got the airport on time, and made our flight. The flight from Dallas to Houston was delayed a bit. Ironically by fog because it left from Dulles (we left from BWI). Once in Houston we had to wait about an hour for our bus that drove us to Galveston. Celebrity really needs to work on that end of things. Their staff was clueless about organization, and one of the people was downright rude to everyone, and she was the one at their desk getting people to the buses. She actually shooed people away because they were to close to her – a customer service class for her would be helpful. Finally we got called out to our bus, where the Assistant manager (who obviously had a bit of training) apologized and got us on our way.
